27th-Apr-2012 02:30 pm - Beta Request
rainy walk
I'm looking for a beta, if possible, to give my wave 1, mostly finished (I need 5k to hit the requirements) bbb a look. It's eventually supposed to be Spencer/Brendon but is stuck in the land of gen at the moment. It's *very* AU (sci-fi) with supporting cast of Cobra, Empires and MCR. I'm hoping to find someone to give me some advice about the world-building and if it makes sense outside of my own head. The story changed a lot from the original plan and I need a sounding board to see if the current direction is working. My grammar/spelling is usually pretty decent but any/all advice is welcomed.

With less than a month left, I've noticed a lot of BBB stress on my Twitter feed. Which is a damn shame, because the people on my Twitter feed are great writers. And I'm sure those that aren't on my feed are great writers too. So everyone:

1) Take a deep calming breath
2) Say something you love about your fic. Something that you know your readers will flail at, a one-liner that made you nearly piss yourself laughing when you wrote it down, an angsty moment that made your cheerleader sniffle. Talk about the rare pairing you're totally making work, or the triad you've meshed out, or the common pairing you've put a crazy twist on. If you're still writing a BBB, there must be at least one thing you love about it, otherwise you'd quit. Brag about it! (last year this had to be anon, I'm guessing the same rule still exists.)
3) WRITE MORE WORDS :D

I'm looking for a beta! I've finished my story weeks ago and I thought a friend would offer, since that's what I've always done in the past, but everybody is really busy lately with school and work.

The main problem is, I don't need a hardcore beta, but I need one that is effective. In the past I've either ended up with people who want to rewrite my whole story one sentence at a time (And if the sentence is really awkward, that's fine, but I don't want to have to reword half of my story) or with people who send me back something with more errors than it started with. I'm still VERY grateful for everybody who offers to help me, don't think I'm not, but I mostly just need someone who will catch all the typos or autocorrect fails, or the occasional use of the wrong name here or there.

Basically, I'm appealing to the light-read-through betas! HELP ME PLEASE!

Oh yeah, btw, my fic is fairly squick-less. It's like... not even NC-17.

My co writer and I are looking for a beta for our Wave 3 (second wave of writers) fic. Mostly we just need a third party to catch accidental tense switches, in case we miss ironing any out ourselves.

We're currently more than halfway through our first draft. It's Chicago bandom centric (Empires, FOB, TAI, Jon Walker...)

Let me know, thanks!
19th-Mar-2012 11:46 pm - I feel silly asking this but...
To podfic listeners: What do you guys think about non-native English speakers recording podfic? Do you find accents annoying?

and

To podfic-makers: what kind of programs do you use to record and edit your podfic?

I'm a total noobosaurus when it comes to this stuff so feel free to laugh at me. ^_^
17th-Mar-2012 09:55 am - Looking for beta
Ray Toro
I've nearly finished my wave 1 draft, and am looking for a beta. I don't want to give too much away, but it's a Frank/Gerard au which will involve a lot of graphic violence and character death. I'll probably need help with Americanisms and I've got a few concerns about character development that I'd like to talk about with someone.

Timewise, I need to have the fic completely finished by the end of April, so ideally I'd like to work with a beta who's around during April. If you can help, pm me or leave a comment. Thanks:D

I'm currently looking for a beta, as I figured it's better now than later when people are bogged down with other things.
Considering the state of my fic and the fact that I signed up for Wave 3 (second wave of writers) it'd be more of a ideas-discussion/please-tell-me-to-get-my-butt-moving thing at the moment. But there is a good number of scenes written, and the whole plot is planned out so...

Also, I hope I'm not a hopeless writer when it comes to punctuation, but I probably will need help with Americanisms...

(As others have said, I'm more than willing for this to go both ways - I've heard that I give good feedback and I also have knowledge of canon/fanon)
4th-Mar-2012 12:57 am - Fic Pairings
My intention this year was to write an epic Skippy fic. I got sucked into the pairing a few years ago when I learned that TAI's tour manager had been on tour with the JoBros, more to the point the fact that Demi Lovato is friends with Bill Beckett and she is connected to the JoBros through Selena Gomez... I mean it was perfect. Mike Carden is awesome, Kevin Jonas is awesome and frankly over the course of the last few years I've seen far stranger pairings here on BBB.

So I was kind of disturbed to find out that apparently Skippy fic was not allowed. Which I thought was strange because I have slogged through every single one of the seriously massive mod and info posts made this year and not once has it been explicitly mentioned a pairing is not allowed.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but I can show you proof of how the people are connected, am I being told I can't write Skippy as a central pairing because the mods find it distasteful? And if this is the case, why on Earth are we allowing these mods to continue running this community? Bandom Big Bang is about writing fanfic. It's a community challenge meant to inspire creativity, camaraderie and the general insanity Bandom tends to bring out in writers, artists and podficcers.

I want to know why no one is coming forward with a list of pairing that 'aren't allowed to be centralized in fic' and why, and then I want you to explain to me why I or anyone else who is a part of this challenge should continue to participate in it if my own creative and artistic voice is going to be silenced over someone's arbitrary decision, and I don't want you to come forward via PM. I want you to announce publicly why these decisions are being made.

<<wake up>>
Keeping with the trend, I'm currently in need of a beta if anyone is interested. At this point my word count is shamefully low so it's mostly bouncing ideas, keeping the creative juices flowing and the such. I'm writing a multi-pairing AU (eye-balling Ryan/Brendon, Jon/Spencer, Gabe/William...others, trying not to over-crowd so who knows what will stick) and thus if that sounds anywhere in anyone's ballpark either leave a comment or PM. Thanks, it would be very much appreciated!  (Also, I'm more than willing to have the service go both ways!)

frankie flail!
I've barely started writing, but I figured it can't hurt to ask for a beta now. It's my first time doing BBB. I would love to have someone to bounce ideas off of as well as the regular stuff like proofreading and story flow. Talking it over with someone else really helps me creatively and gets the ideas flowing. If anyone can help me with this, it would be very much appreciated!

Less than 24 hours to go.

Who else is freaking out?

My fic finally decided to take on a life of it's own, I'm just worried it wants too much in not enough time.

beat it
I know I'm not the only one struggling to get finished here. I also know most everyone uses Hawaii as a baseline. But I wonder if Eniwetok (GMT-12) would be acceptable as well? xD

So, besides this, how is everyone else doing? :)

Kiki-It's Me
Since fics are due in a little over a week I thought I'd check and see where everyone is at. And maybe not feel so bad about only being half way done with mine.

I procrastinated until the last moment and then realized just how much I haven't gotten written. Now I'm worried that it'll actually reach 10000 by the time I'm done. ;.;

But I'm getting at least 700 words done a night so I can get it done.

 Hello all,

I'm trying something a little different than anything I've written before for wave two and while I have a beta she is out of bandom and I would really appreciate someone who would be willing to second beta for me who knows the boys.

I really don't want to give too much away, but it's a fantasy/historical AU, primary focus being on Bob and Mikey and their respective pairings. It's pretty rough at the moment, but I have nearly 7k words so far, and there's plenty more to come.

If you think you could help please email me at nevikrose @ gmail (dot) com

Hi! I'm a wave two writer in need of a beta for my mostly-completed BBB. It's a Brendon/Gerard Spanish teacher AU, and while no knowledge of Spanish is needed, you should probably be willing to read 10k about it. If you'd like to help, email me at alsointogiraffe [at] gmail [dot] com. Thanks!
5th-Jun-2011 09:43 pm - Help with translating!
Marie
Hi! I'm a writer for Wave Two and I am having a few problems with translation. All the online translators I have used are giving me conflicting answers so I was wondering if someone could help translate the phrase; The Forsaken Ones from English into Latin for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also in search of a beta, details behind the cut!Collapse )

Is anyone else totally flipping out over how amazing their art and mixes are?

My art is absolutely hilarious, and my mix is the most perfect mix to have ever been mixed, and I want to tell the world how amazing it is! So, I thought I might not be the only one.

Remember to go anonymous if you want to go into detail!
23rd-May-2011 07:53 am - Special Beta needed :-)
mcr: bang!
Hello, I thought I would try asking around here, too.

For a story that takes place in 1984, I would need an 80s savvy beta (proof reading is done by someone else.) I was too young in 1984, and even though I try to research a lot, I would feel much more comfortable with a beta who was teen or tween at that time themselves. I'm very open for including more 80s detail, too - very happy to talk about fashion styles and music etc, even though the characters obviously are much more into the local punk scene, than mainstream.

The story is Frank/Gerard, and I call it my Run-Down Movie Theater AU. Rating is NC-17. Word count so far 15.000, expecting about 30.000. I want to sign this up for Wave 2.

Also, if there's anyone around here, who has worked with movie projectors or film reels/film cans/film strips - please wave? Guess that part of the story could do with lots of fact checking as well.
17th-May-2011 01:31 pm - How are the artists and mixers doing?
Gwyneira Plushie
Hello!

I guess this post would be kind of like the artist check-in email the artists got (and the mixers will soon get theirs!), except a more public version? :Da For I am quite curious how everybody's doing as I am a participating artist myself; and I'm sure all of the authors out there are just itching in their seats, wondering how their artists and/or mixers are doing.

So tell us, how's it going?

General:
How many Big Bang pieces have you claimed?
What's your progress thus far? Alternatively, how much more do you need to do?

For the artists:
What type of medium are you using?
How many pieces are you doing per Big Bang story?
What is the greatest challenge in creating your piece?

For the mixers:
What genre of music are you using?
How do you choose the music to accompany your Big Bang piece?
